Tasty Tuesday

Lemon oil, like I had mentioned yesterday, is such a great oil because of how diverse it is! One of my all-time favourite ways to use lemon oil is in baking. Lemon tends to really bring out the flavours and is used in such a variety of recipes. First and foremost today we will start out with a fruit and veggie spray to help you prep your food for cooking and then we will have a really great recipe for dinner and dessert.

Fruit and Veggie Wash

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 drops lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops On Guard essential oil
  • Glass spray bottle

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together into spray bottle
  2. Spray onto fruit and veggies before consumption, and rinse off.

 

Brown Sugar Salmon

Ingredients:

  • 1 full salmon filet
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 4 drops lemon oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix brown sugar, butter, lemon juice, and lemon oil together in sauce pan.
  2. Warm over medium heat until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved.
  3. Put salmon filet into large freezer bag with the marinade sauce.
  4. Close bag tightly and let sit for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat broiler.
  6. Cover broiler pan with foil and place fish on it with the flesh side up.
  7. Broil the fish until flaky.
  8. Drizzle some of the marinade over the fish well boiling if you desire.
  9. Cook fish until it is a light pink throughout.
  10. Place on serving plate and pour remaining marinade over it as desired.
  11. Enjoy!

Lemon Bars

Ingredients:

CRUST:

  • 1 cup softened butter (NOT melted)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Pinch of salt

FILLING:

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 6 drops lemon oil

TOPPING:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 drop lemon oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix butter, flour, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and salt together.
  3. Press into the bottom of a 9×13″ pan lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
  5. Mix eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add lemon juice, lemon oil, water, and cornstarch. Mix well.
  6. Pour mixture over semi cooked crust.
  7. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Mix powdered sugar, and lemon oil in a ziplock bag and shake it up.
  9. When lemon bars are done and cooled, sprinkle with lemon infused powdered sugar on top.
  10. Enjoy!

Lavender Recap

Well, today is the last day we are spending with lavender for now. So I am sure you have found some great ways to use this oil and enjoyed some benefits from it. Did you try any recipes? Make any of your own? What were your favourite ways to use the oil.

Because its our last day using this oil, and it is summer, I wanted to share with you one final recipe that you will want to keep on hand in the summer months. Next time you get a bit too much sun and start to feel irritation, spray this on for some quick relief.

After Sun Spray

Ingredients:

  • glass spray bottle
  • 1 cup aloe vera juice (you can get it from the health food store)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 8 drops doTERRA lavender oil
  • 8 drops doTERRA tea tree oil
  • 8 drops doTERRA peppermint oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in glass spray bottle.
  2. Shake to combine.
  3. Shake before each use, spray onto irritated area.
  4. Enjoy the soothing relief.

SpOIL Yourself Saturday

Weekends should be about relaxing and spoiling yourself, am I right? So each Saturday is going to be dedicated to spoiling yourself using the essential oil of the week. Lavender is a GREAT oil to start this off with because it has so many great relaxing benefits. So dedicate a few hours to yourself this weekend and be prepared to relax.

We will start off super simple with one you can even make and enjoy later. I like to keep a jar of these in the bathroom, because you never know when you will have time for a nice relaxing bath.

Lavender Bath Salts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups bath salts
  • 3-5 drops doTERRA lavender oil
  • jar for storage

Instructions:

  1. Mix bath salts with the lavender oil in the jar.
  2. Put 2-3 tablespoons into a hot bath.
  3. Relax and enjoy!

Easy peasy right? Next one is nice and simple too!

Lavender Body Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 10 drops doTERRA lavender oil
  • mason jar

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and melted coconut butter in a bowl.
  2. Mix in lavender oil.
  3. Transfer to jar for storage.
  4. Wet skin, apply a small amount of sugar scrub. Massage into skin in a circular motion. Rinse with water and dry well.
  5. Enjoy!

*This mixture will only keep for 1 month in a jar.

And finally, one of personal favourites to use especially in the summer. If you are anything like me your hair gets really tangled, especially after swimming in pools or the lake. This is my go to saviour for detangling my hair!

Detangler Spray

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon doTERRA conditioner
  • 5 drops doTERRA lavender oil
  • 3 drops doTERRA rosemary oil
  • 2 drops doTERRA ylang ylang
  • glass spray bottle with a fine mist spray nozzle

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together into spray bottle. Shake well.
  2. Spray lightly into hair and brush out tangles.
  3. Enjoy your tangle free hair!
