Hello 2018!

Well, last night we said goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018. I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Years! Lets start off this year talking about some oils that will become your go to oils in 2018.

If your New Years started off anything like mine (frozen water pipes and a dead fish – gotta love the Canadian cold weather!) you will probably want some oils to help you to relax and feel grounded to start the year off on the right foot.

My favourite oils to help you relax and feel grounded:

Lavender

I think this is one of my top used oils every night and has been since I was a kid. Some of my favourite ways to use this are to diffuse with cedarwood and vetiver in the bedroom, put a drop on the bottoms of each of my feet, put a couple drops in my bath to help relax muscles, or even sometimes if I am feeling stressed at work to put a drop in my water!

Frankincense

The KING returns. Seriously though this oil does it all. One drop pressed on your finger and pressed to the roof of your mouth for about 30 seconds and you feel instantly more grounded and relaxed. I also put this on the bottoms of my feet during extra tough times to help me feel more grounded and relaxed as well.

Vetiver

Oh how I love my Vetiver. This one I mostly tend to diffuse often at night but sometimes during the day. It has a very earthy tone to it which I love. Note: you will want to get a dropper for your Vetiver bottle or it may stress you out on how long it takes to get out of the bottle! HAHA.

Roman Chamomile

I am not even kidding when I say I inhale this oil daily. Just the smell of it instantly puts my mind at ease. This is my go to oil when I just need to shut my brain down and relax. Diffuse it nightly, use in the bath, take internally. Oh this oil is just sweet pure relaxing bliss.

Bergamot

This is one of my favourite oils because (in case you don’t already know) I LOVE CITRUS oils. But unlike a lot of the other citrus oils, Bergamot has both grounding and uplifting tendencies associated with it. I use bergamot daily in my “pure-fume” blend and find it really is quite grounding. In the evening before bed I will mix this sometimes with lavender and cedarwood too!

Cedarwood

This is again one of the most used oils in our house – seriously I have to hide this one from Daryl sometimes or we could go through a bottle a week! First of all I find not only does this oil blend well with basically anything, its incredibly grounding. This is the one that Daryl always says reminds him of being in nature, which is a naturally calming and grounding feeling for most people. Typically we diffuse this one, but I also do use it in our soap and his beard oil to help ground on a cellular level.

Ylang Ylang

Not just fun to say! This oil has so many amazing uses when it comes to handling stress and relaxing the mind, body and spirit. Sneak a few drops of this in your diffuser tonight and promise you wont be disappointed!

I will be posting a few recipes, diffuser blends, and different ways to use these oils as well as some more information about them over the next few weeks, so if you haven’t got them yet, make sure you get them on your next order. Also on a side note, if you are looking to relax and don’t have Frankincense in your collection yet, placing a 200PV order before the 15th of the month will let you get one for free ($118 retail value!). If you have any questions send me a message!

On the other hand some of us may be looking for some oils to help motivate us to reach those New Years resolutions. If you are looking for those oils stayed tuned for Thursdays post!

Until next time!

Thirsty Thursday: Peppermint

Quite possibly my favourite day of this weeks serious because this features some amazing drink recipes, which this week include alcohol! I mean how could we talk about mint drinks and not talk about mojitos and juleps. Of course we will also be featuring a non-alcoholic drink for those of you non-drinkers out there.

Lets get too it! Starting off with my favourite summer time drink the mojito! This drink is nice and refreshing and always reminds me of sandy beaches in Mexico.

Classic Mojito

*This recipe makes a 2 L pitcher, great for sharing!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white rum
  • Club soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 3-4 limes
  • 3-5 drops doTERRA lime oil
  • 5-10 drops doTERRA peppermint oil

Instructions:

  1. First things first, we need to make the simple syrup. Bring 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar to a boil. Stir until sugar has dissolved completely. Cool and store in the fridge.
  2. Juice your limes using a citrus juicer and pour the juice into your pitcher.
  3. Add mint leaves.
  4. Add doTERRA lime oil and peppermint oil.
  5. Add 1 cup of rum and 3/4 of a cup of the simple syrup (the stuff you made in step one). You can add more simple syrup if you want a sweeter taste.
  6. Fill the pitcher with ice.
  7. Top off with club soda, and stir.
  8. Enjoy!

Next up we have a classic drink with a twist, by adding some essential oils you are going to notice this is a lot more flavourful!

Mint Julep

*This is a single serving recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2.5oz of your favourite bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup (we made that in the last recipe using sugar and water!)
  • 4-5 fresh mint leaves
  • 2-3 drops doTERRA peppermint oil
  • ice

Instructions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, mix together simple syrup and bourbon with doTERRA peppermint oil.
  2. Fill your glass with ice.
  3. Pour mixture into glass and stir.
  4. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
  5. Enjoy!

Last but not least, we have a great tea. This tea is amazing for helping to settle an upset stomach and help with bloating and cramping. Eat too much of those yummy desserts from Tasty Tuesday? This tea has you covered to help ease the stomach upset.

Overindulgence Tea

*I learned this one from The Essential Life book, highly recommend you get a copy of this if you don’t have it already!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 10 drops doTERRA wild orange oil
  • 5 drops doTERRA lemon oil
  • 3 drops doTERRA coriander oil
  • 2 drops doTERRA ginger oil
  • 2 drops doTERRA peppermint oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the essential oils together in a small bottle and set aside (you can keep this for future use too!).
  2. Dissolve honey into hot water.
  3. Stir in 2-3 drops of the essential oil mixture.
  4. Sip until your tummy begins to settle.

Well thats all for today ladies and gents! Hope you enjoyed the recipes!

This week our blends are all featuring peppermint. I have several really great blends for you! Now as you may remember from previous blends of the day, there are lots of other ways to use peppermint, such as headache relief, and allergy relief! Peppermint can also be used in blends to smell fresh and clean, or uplifting and energizing.

There are so many great ways to use it in diffusing. What are some of your favourite blends?

Check out this weeks blends and let me know what you think!
